Goals & Priorities 2019

January is almost over. Time flies when you are having fun. Welcome to Liam Sergunin!

Let’s talk about goals and priorities 2019. I am in the mixer myself right now, with becoming a new mom, but still, life happens and we need to stay the course.

Here is what recommend:

Step #1: Simply to take a step back and assess where you are.

Don’t get lost in the sea of day-to-day expenses, debt and income. Become crystal clear of what you actually want. Don’t think about whether it’s possible or not, right now it’s not that important. Allow yourself to dream! Remember, when you were a kid? Anything was possible at that time.

Step #2: Make a list.

Write everything down. If it’s not written down, it’s not a goal, it’s just a wish! As you write, try to define as much as possible what you want and how soon. For example, you want to buy a house. How much does it cost? how much down payment will you need, 10% or 20%? Once you identify that number, that becomes your target. Now, to rephrase your goal: My goal is to save $50,000 for down payment on a new home in 3 years, by 2019.

Step #3: Set priorities

So, you now have a list of your goals. How do you decide which goal you should focus on first? It’s not easy. I know. We, as human beings want instant gratification and our goals constantly collide with one another. Rank your list in order of importance based on time horizon. Think about what you want to happen in the next 3 years, next 5-7 years and more than 7 years. If you are struggling to prioritize the importance, ask yourself: Which goal will cause more harm if deferred to a later time? Which goal will benefit more people around you?
