Daily Juice 088 – Holiday prep- Earn income (Rent your stuff)

Well, today is October 19th and I think it’s time to start talking about getting ready for holidays.

Halloween is 12 days away, Thanksgiving is 32 days away and Christmas is 68 days. I love holidays and I am sure many of you as well. But we often find ourselves in January digging out of the post-holiday hole, due to overspending, overeating and overindulging. Let’s do it differently this year, let’s plan ahead set different New Year’s resolutions.

I propose we think of ways to earn extra income to support our spending habits this holiday season. Let’s start talking about what kind of stuff do you own that can earn you income?

Also, before we get into details, how about we put together a small budget of all anticipated spending we intend to do, whether it is gifts, travel, going out, etc.

So what do you own that can make you money? Here are a few examples I came up with:

-A vehicle

How often do you use your car? Does it sit around in your driveway or at a parking lot near your office? Services like getaround.com. They estimate you can earn $800 per month.

-A spare room in your home or the entire home itself

I am a big fan of Airbnb. I use it a lot when I am traveling and stayed in all kinds of places all over the world. Got a room that you can rent out for a few nights a week or on the weekend? You can earn on average about $100 per night, depending on your location.

-A parking space

If you live in a metro areas such as Washington DC, NYC or San Francisco and you are a lucky owner of a parking space, rent it out. And guess what, there is an app for that. www.justpark.com but it’s only available in the UK. I found a number of craigslist postings.
